Description
Roy Hersh review:
Medium-dark topaz with ruby highlights and a golden edge. The nose of this Port kept mine in the glass early and often. Not so subtle intense fragrant Indian spices, Hopjes Koffie candy, almond, grape Lifesaver, toffee, yes … plenty of toffee. The bouquet is worth the price of admission, as I left out the other ten descriptors. Medium-bodied, yet immediately one will get a sensation of the depth and density on the surface. The nutty infusion of this Enólogo dominates the landscape, but underlying tropical notes of grilled pineapple with a dollop of balsamico, adds extra layers to the core of this 20 year old. Smooth, rich and precise, with a whopping 144 grams/liter of residual sugar, yet fortunately the acidity is able to cut through the sweetness and provides perfect harmony. It is obvious why, but initial sips harkened back to my early impressions of the original Bulas 20 year old Tawny. The second time I had this Port, (May 2024) brought up the exact same impression, which is high praise! I may be underrating this 20, but it’s because the finish was only medium-long. There’s a lot to love here, and in retrospect I probably should’ve gone up another point!
