Surprisingly, both the 10 and 20 year old Tawnies had a darker optic than this. But that’s a moot point, immediately upon taking the first whiff. As much as I enjoyed the nose of the 20, this 30 is far more exotic and nuanced with an initial blast of macadamia and toasted sesame seeds, closely followed by torched sugar and a scent of prune. Unique! Weightier than its younger counterparts, the concentration of this Tawny is a significant strength, while the seductive mouthfeel and textural pleasure derived in sipping this Port, is sublime. Silky crème caramel, praline, ripe tropical fruit and other torrefacted notes create an evocative Port cocktail in the glass. While the optics of this Enólogo were deceptive, the sweetness is not, as it hits 156 gpl of RS and due to the cleansing if not bracing acidity, it delivers an exhilarating, ultra-long unctuous and complex finish.
