Roy Hersh review:
Dark cola color with golden-green edge. I’d guess this as much older, not by the hint of green on the rim, but by the actual aromas and flavors. There is a black pepper slightly high-toned note (not VA-like), infused with mocha and sweet caramel, along with some honeyed and tropical scents. Medium weight, yet with a rich mouthfeel, and immediate sense of amplitude and focus. It was necessary, given the 149 g/liter of RS, the requisite piercing acidity maintained the symmetry of this delicious Tawny 40. There’s an air of elegance and decadence here, with a silky texture that is different than the others in this family, and impression of more weight, yet it remains smooth and fairly light. The torrefacted sweetness of this Port is apparent throughout, it’s sophistication makes for thought provoking slow sipping, while the deft balance of the layered mid-section and long finish, rival the likes of most Top tier 40s. Lots to appreciate, in a word: opulence!
